Tips to Memorize Line .......

Got a script... need to memorize FAST... Don't fret..... Been there done that too!

Of all the things an actor must do, memorizing lines tops the list. If you are trying to break into the acting field, this is a skill that you simply must learn to do efficiently. While memorizing your lines does not have to be difficult, many actors and actresses make it that way. If you have an acting part in a play, learning your lines is a matter of putting in the time and effort.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you memorize your lines more quickly and easily:

The first thing you need to understand when you are memorizing lines is that you have to become the character you are portraying. When you are memorizing the lines, it helps if you are actually in that character mode. You will begin to think as the character, and so be more inclined to anticipate what they might have to say. Many people practice lines while still being themselves. You do not memorize your lines. Your character does.

When you are having particular troubles memorizing your lines, it sometimes helps to even get into your
costume. The act of becoming the character sometimes means standing in your living room dressed as Hamlet. Do not be afraid to go to drastic measures if this is what it takes to memorize your lines.

Another key to memorizing your lines is to tackle it in smaller portions. Long, constant memorization sessions can sometimes force you to jumble the lines. Instead, practice one section at a time. Master a section and be able to quote it without thinking. Then move on to the next section.

Another key to memorizing your lines is to have a great reading partner. Better still, find several reading partners. It helps to have a different voice for each of the characters you interact with in the script. This will help to lessen the noise in your mind when you go to perform the play. If you are used to hearing other’s lines via the monotone sound of your Aunt Martha, it may be distracting when you hear them actually performed by your co-actors. For this reason, it is important to at least have your reading partners make up a voice for each new part.
Steady practice and persistence is the key to memorizing your lines. In the time leading up to the actual play, you should have your lines in front of you everywhere you go. Marry into the part and dedicate yourself to knowing it inside and out. Take breaks often, but always have it nearby for a quick refresher each chance you get.

Memorizing your lines for a

play is really not all that hard if you give it the proper attention. You have to practice often, keep the sessions short, and make sure that you use excellent reading partners. If you do these things while becoming the character you are to portray, the lines will come to you quickly and easily.
